About me

Hi there! Thanks for visiting my site :) I love to cook; sometimes it gets to the point that I feel like my life revolves around food! That's okay, though, because I love to eat just as much as I love to cook! Let me tell you a little bit about myself, my cooking style, and my goals for the site:

  • I have recently started to make Weekly Meal Plans. I am trying to utilize this blog and my local grocery store's webpage for weekly specials to plan out each week. I decided to do more meal planning both because the cost of food is going up and because it saves me time.
  • I am also trying to cut back on our food budget, food waste, and feel better about the food purchases I do make. We have 4 chickens, and I feel incredibly guilty when I purchase generic factory chicken. It's important to me that the animals we eat have a decent quality of life; there's no reason we can't raise our food with compassion. Our chickens are friendly and curious, and as a bonus they eat my vegetable scraps and give me eggs!
  • I like to use a good amount of fresh produce, and I try to keep it fairly seasonal. I try to go to the farmer's market for our vegetables, and I vegetable garden over 100sq. ft. each year. I also compost a good deal of food waste.
  • I try to balance our meals. I grew up with the food pyramid, but I'm getting used to the new food plate. I make sure each meal has a starch, a protein, and as many vegetables as I can reasonably pack into it. I grew up vegetarian, so vegetables are friends to me!
  •  I will try to post recipes of everything I put into a Weekly Meal Plan. If I am following a recipe I found online I'll include a link. If the recipe is from a book I'll include a link to the book on amazon. If the recipe is of my own devices, I'll post the recipe on the site as soon as possible. Whenever I list a recipe that I altered, I'll include my alterations next to the listing in the Weekly Meal Plan.
  • I cook for 2 people. My recipe portions will be small, and many recipes I halve (or third if it's from The Pioneer Woman, her family is huge!). I can get away with making a modest vegetable & meat purchase, and stretch it over the entire week (or more!).
  • I like to make things from scratch whenever possible. You'll see that in my blog from time to time. For example, I make my own stock from remains of a rotisserie or roast chicken in my crock pot.
I'm sure more things will come up as time goes on, and I'll be sure to update this section whenever that happens. Thanks again for visiting the site!
